2. BIRTHDAY TREATS?
We love to celebrate your child here at school. There is, however, a change this year that does not allow birthday treats to be sent in with students. This is due to life threatening allergies that some of our students are challenged with. This is a district policy. You may send in treats that are not edible.
3. Will my child have homework?
Daniel Wright Elementary School is committed to doing the very best for ALL students! We are always looking for ways we can do things better. We are evaluating Homework and the effect it has on student performance. We, as a building, our trying out some new ways to allow students to practice what they NEED at home versus just a packet of worksheets they may have already mastered. We value FAMILY and we value YOUR PRECIOUS TIME with your children. We have a plan in place to meet the needs of students without loading them with stacks of practice sheets at home.
*At times, we may send a practice sheet home if a student is struggling with a concept or if they didn't have a chance to finish it in class. They will know the directions but may need your support. This will have a due date on it and be marked homework.
**READING AT HOME REQUESTED
We are giving all students a reading bag that will travel between home and school. This will serve as a communication to you about what types of books your student is choosing to read as well as books they are working with during their reading group time. They will also have a reader's notebook that will be a part of their reading bag. Students may choose to respond to text at home in that notebook but there will be no reading log required. Reading at home has proven to be extremely helpful to student success. 20-30 minutes of independent or family read aloud time is a great goal for our 2nd grade students.
***Any practice pages done from this site are for your at home work. They do not need to be checked or turned in for a grade. Practice pages are never graded for reporting.

4. Why doesn't my child bring home much work?
We do not practice everything in class with a worksheet. Often times, our work is in a writing folder, a journal, on our google classroom, or in discussion. We also collect work for binders in the classroom. At any given time, you can check progress book for grades and information. Your student can also bring any journal, writing folder, or binder home to share with you as well. These items just need to be returned the following day so your student will have them to work in.
