MATH WORKSHOP COMPONENTS
1. OPENING - MATH ROUTINES or MATH WARM UP
Number Talks, Counting Circles, Guess my number, Beat the Teacher, Incredible Equation, Today's Number
2. FOCUS LESSON - A specific skill is introduced or modeled. A math concept read aloud may be used to introduce the concept. A rich problem task may be presented. Students are given a tool they will be able to use during their independent practice time.
3. INDEPENDENT WORK TIME - Students are engaging with a task differentiated for their learning level that allows them to practice the strategy modeled or introduced.
CHOICE TIME - Students can visit a MATH WORK BOARD when their work with the task is complete. Students will be working with math games, math practice activities, technology games, or a teacher led math group to complete their math workshop time.
4. SHARE & REFLECT - Students are sharing their strategies from their independent work time. Other student are able to see what is working for their peers and will be able to give new strategies a try based on evidence from their peers.
